Perry Township: Centrally located on the White River, Indianapolis is the Marion County seat as well as the state’s capital and largest city. Perry Township is one of nine separate townships that make up the suburbs of Indianapolis. The township once provided produce for the surrounding communities and was home to numerous greenhouses, truck farms and nurseries. As Indianapolis grew rapidly into a modern city in the early 20th century, residents slowly filtered out into the nearby suburbs searching for a more peaceful, familiar environment. Quaint and serene, Perry Township soon attracted scores of new residents with its vast acres of land and quiet country appeal. Today, the communities of Perry Township - Beech Grove, Edgewood, Glens Valley, Lindenwood, Perry Manor, Rosedale Hills and Southport - are home to nearly 100,000 residents. The township is known for its large lots and tree-lined streets; its proximity to interstates 65 and 465, shopping, medical facilities and recreation; and a school system considered one of Indiana’s best. The Metropolitan School District of Perry Township serves nearly 12,000 students in grades K-12. Of course, Perry Township is part of Indianapolis and residents have easy access to the modern amenities available in the big city. A thriving performing arts community, professional sports and boundless recreational and historical destinations are just minutes away. In addition, the township boasts a diverse real estate market and a wide variety of lovely, affordable homes.
